Weekend Snapshots: Princess Half Marathon Weekend

FINALLY I’m getting to run the Princess Half! I’m so excited for this weekend (writing this Friday) it’s ridiculous. Since this is a long weekend, I have some awesome things planned to tell you about!

Since this was my first day off of the weekend, it felt great to sleep in! I went in to my second job briefly this morning to learn how to open the store since I’ll be doing that for the first time solo next weekend. After that I headed up to Tampa and stopped by the International Mall- I needed to exchange my shoes and the Fit2Run there has a much better selection than the ones in my town! This is both a happy and sad story- I’ve run in my Mizuno Wave Prophecy’s for about two years, so it’s bittersweet that the new update didn’t work out for me, but I’m happy that I’m getting to try something new- I got the Saucony Triumph ISO2.

At night I went to a comedy show at the Tampa Improv with my friend Allison. I had fun with her- it’s super easy to talk to her and we always have a good time. The comedian, however, was borderline offensive for both of us. He made a lot of sexist jokes and we didn’t really like him. After the show we went to the Brass Tap in Ybor and had a beer and people watched. Wow- how crazy it was to be there since I hadn’t been down there since college! I don’t miss it- the people are super crazy. We saw some really questionable outfits- including one girl dressed in a pepperoni pizza onesie! She was going to a club…in a onesie.

Saturday morning we woke up sort of early and left for Orlando for the Disney Princess Half Marathon Expo. It didn’t take too long to get there- while it was way more crowded than the expo for the Tower of Terror 10 miler I did previously, it wasn’t as bad as I expected. I had hoped to get a Tervis Tumbler as one of the commemorative items but they sold out earlier in the week. I ended up with a Sweaty Bands headband and a magnet for my car. Then I stopped by the KT Tape booth to get my ankle taped up before Sunday. After a half hour wait, they taped me and we left to get a bite to eat for lunch. We went to Pei Wei Asian Grill– holy crap yum! I had never been here before but the food was amazing! I had a Thai Mango Chicken salad and steamed edamame. #obsessed

After checking in to the hotel we relaxed a bit before grabbing an early dinner at Bahama Breeze. I met up with a friend who recently moved to the Orlando area and her friends who had all run the Princess 10k that morning. It was great to see her again and we had a fun dinner!

I love their matching shirts!

It was an early bedtime for me- I went to sleep around 8 pm. Since I had to be awake at 3 am for the Princess Half, I wanted to try and get a good night’s sleep. It was ok- I woke up around 11:30 and had a hard time falling back asleep but I felt plenty energized when I woke up the following morning!

We arrived at Epcot around 4 am. Honestly, I expected traffic to be much worse but Disney did a good job of getting a good flow to traffic going. We parked and met up with my friend Barbara before corral walk out. I tried to meet up with some other friends too, but they were stuck on the bus from their hotel and didn’t get to corral walk out until after the national anthem had been sung!

I’ll do a detailed recap later this week, so I won’t go into too many details here. However, it was a good race and I felt pretty good most of the time. After I was done we went for breakfast with some more friends who live in the area. We aimed for Cracker Barrel but since they were so busy we ended up at Denny’s. Normally I like Denny’s but they screwed up a lot of our food today. It was still good to catch up and we had plenty of funny conversation! Before I knew it, it was time to head home for the week.

Post race- tired but happy.

Fun weekends always go by so fast; I really wish they would last longer! I had a great time though and am so glad I did the half this weekend. I’m already thinking of signing up for next year’s Glass Slipper Challenge- those challenge medals looked awesome!

    1. This was on Vineland by the Orlando outlet malls. I love the restaurant in general, but this one is one of my favorite locations.

    1. They really do but it wasn’t as bad as I thought waking up that early. I normally wake up at 4 am for work!
