2016: A Year in Running & Racing

Wow, I can’t believe it’s time for another ‘Year in Running’ recap! It feels like no time at all since I did the last post. Why does it always feel like a year goes by so fast? I’ve done a lot of races this year and signed up for some I didn’t get the chance to do, so here’s the scoop on my year! So glad Courtney is hosting this link up!

Eat Pray Run DC Year of Running 2016

Best Race Experience: Definitely runDisney’s Star Wars Dark Side Challenge. Leading up to this race, I was despondent and not at all excited about it. When I got there it all changed though. I was so thrilled to be able to get a hug from Chewie! This race was literally full of happiness and fun for me.

One of the happiest moments of my year

Best Run: Hmmm…there are a few that definitely stand out. I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves.

Running on Casey Key- gorgeous!
How can you not love running when this is your view??
That sunset tho…

Best New Piece of Gear: My Garmin Forerunner 230. Was so worth the investment. It’s a great watch and I love using it!

New Garmin watch!

Best Piece of Running Advice You’ve Received: “Just do it!” Said to me by a friend when I was vacillating over whether or not to run a race. Best summed up in this awesome video.

Most Inspirational Runner: This guy- Moose! His commitment to his kids fitness and dedication to his family is super inspiring. Even though kids aren’t for me, I think it’s so cool how much he encourages his kids to be active and supports them. I wish someone had done that for me when I was their age. Plus, his daughter is the next OCR badass. Just watch her sometime.

Moose and mini moose.

Favorite Picture from a Run or Race this year: I have to choose just one?

Since I already shared the picture of Chewie earlier, this is one of my other favorites. I look so happy crossing the finish line here!
And I can’t forget about the time I got to take a picture with my other half 😉

Race Experience You Would Repeat in a Heartbeat: Tough Mudder Atlanta. That whole weekend was pretty much perfect.

Couldn’t have had better teammates for TM Atlanta

If you could sum up your year in a couple of words, what would they be? Friends, running skirts, compression & medals! I run for the bling- all the time. Or headbands. Whatever they give out. I’m also obsessed with running skirts and compression gear and I wouldn’t be able to have as much fun running if I didn’t run with friends!

  1. This year passed by so so quickly! :O And goodness, those photos definitely speak for themselves–the sunsets are so gorgeous! <3 I'm glad you had an awesome run/race year! 😀

    1. Thanks for hosting! I love this link up, I was hoping it would keep going. 2017 is looking like it will be awesome!

  2. Fantastic year! Congrats! I live on the west coast and I’ve been eyeing those DisneyWorld race for awhile now. I’m hoping to try my hand at the Dopey Challenge during the Walt Disney World marathon weekend once I have trained enough for it and have the money for all those hard earned medals. 🙂

    1. Dopey is a HUGE financial commitment. The race alone is like $600! I have some friends training for it this year. I don’t know how I feel about doing a half and then a full back to back though!
